Still Time to Prioritize July’s State Vision

Former Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam has said there is still time to make July’s state vision the central political framework, calling for the building of ‘maximum alliances’ to achieve it.
He made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday night.
In his post, Mahfuj Alam wrote, “The July supporters failed to address the concerns of the middle class (in terms of culture and political economy). Without understanding the stage of the revolution or transformation, they were influenced by senior figures and gradually isolated themselves in both Dhaka and the districts by losing potential allies. Those senior figures, however, are doing well.”
Referring to the role of the middle class, he said that without its participation, July would have turned into another large-scale ‘Shapla’ incident. He added, “So far, Bengali nationalism has been able to address the middle-class question. Bangladeshi nationalism has also failed. Sixteen years of fascism prove it.”
