Saddam Hossain, general secretary of the Dargram Union Jubo Dal, has announced his resignation from his party post out of anger and frustration after failing to secure a fertilizer dealership in Saturia, Manikganj. He made the announcement in a post on his Facebook account on Saturday morning. The decision has sparked discussion in local political circles.

Saddam Hossain claimed that his family has been involved in the fertilizer business for a long time. His father is the general secretary of the Dargram Union BNP and has been in the fertilizer business for nearly four decades. However, he alleged that his family was deprived of a dealership in 2009 because of their political identity when fertilizer dealers were appointed. Since then, they have had to operate the business by renting a dealership from another dealer.

Recently, applications were submitted by Saddam Hossain and his family after a new notice was published inviting applications for fertilizer dealerships. However, Md. Ruhul Amin was ultimately appointed as the fertilizer dealer for Dargram Union. Saddam said he had decided to leave his party post out of disappointment over the decision.

In his Facebook post, he also highlighted the sacrifices and challenges he faced during his political career. Saddam claimed that he and his family were subjected to persecution during difficult times for the party and faced several cases. At one point, nine cases had been filed against him. He also said that both he and his father had been imprisoned at the same time. He said he made the decision out of frustration over not receiving the opportunities he expected despite remaining active in political activities for a long time.

Kazi Mostak Hossain Dipu, convener of the district Jubo Dal, said multiple applicants from one union had applied for fertilizer dealerships. The upazila committee reviewed the applications and forwarded them to the ministry. The ministry made the final appointment decisions. He said there was no reason to be disappointed and that appropriate steps would be taken gradually to support those who had been deprived of opportunities.

Tania Tabassum, agriculture officer of Saturia Upazila, said the names of three candidates from each union had been forwarded to the district committee through the Upazila Fertilizer and Seed Committee. The district committee then sent the names to the ministry. The ministry published the list of new dealers on October 6.

It is worth noting that on October 6, a list of new fertilizer dealers was published for seven upazilas in Manikganj, along with other areas across the country. The list named Md. Ruhul Amin as the dealer for Dargram Union in Saturia.
