In Mohammadpur, Dhaka, student activists from the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal handed over 10 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations to police following a protest march.

The incident took place on Sunday at the College Gate area of Mohammadpur, where the individuals were chased and detained during a demonstration.

Those detained were identified as Sajeeb Sardar, Md. Nazir Hossain, Md. Kabir, Kalam Farazi, Ali Raj Hossain, Md. Kabir Hossain, Md. Swapon, Md. Siraj, Helal Hossain, and Asad Uddin.

Mutaher Hossain Niloy, joint convener of Dhaka Metropolitan West Chhatra Dal, said their members had been stationed in the Asad Gate and College Gate areas since early morning as part of a monitoring plan. He said they had decided to detain and hand over anyone attempting to hold a procession.

He added that when a group attempted to bring out a march in the morning, they were chased and detained before being handed over to police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Juel Rana of the Tejgaon Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed that 10 individuals from a banned organization were detained while taking part in a procession near College Gate. He said legal procedures are underway and the detainees will be sent to court.
