The mechanical glitch on Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight BG 377, carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was fixed after nearly five hours on Thursday, with officials saying the fault was primarily in the software system.

“The glitch has been fixed and the aircraft has become ‘serviceable.’ Boarding resumed at 10:50pm,” a passenger in the PM’s entourage informed.

Earlier, the aircraft encountered the mechanical fault while returning to Dhaka from Narita, Japan. The PM and his delegation got off the plane. Other passengers did as well. They remained in the airport lounge for about five hours.

At that time, the aircraft’s pilot, Captain Imamul, said engineers were working to fix the glitch.

The flight was scheduled to take off from Narita International Airport around 6 pm local time. However, nearly 40 minutes after the scheduled time, the pilot announced a delay in the journey from the cockpit due to a mechanical fault and expressed regret. Later, the aircraft was taken back to the tarmac.

Tarique went to Tokyo on 26 October on a four-day state visit at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. During the visit, he participated in a high-level bilateral meeting with Takaichi. He also held meetings with chairmen, chief executive officers (CEOs), and senior officials of various private and financial institutions in Japan.

In these meetings, issues of strengthening economic and commercial cooperation and expanding investment between Bangladesh and Japan gained importance. Besides, several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed between the two countries in various fields, including agriculture, infrastructure development, cybersecurity, information technology, and improvement in the industrial sector.

At the final leg of the visit, the PM also attended a reception ceremony hosted by Bangladeshi citizens residing in Tokyo.
