Launch fares also increased after bus fares

After bus fares, launch fares have also been increased. Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam announced the decision after a meeting with launch owners at the Ministry of Shipping on Wednesday.
The minister said the fare for launches has been increased by 23 poisha per kilometer for the first 100 kilometers and by 20 poisha per kilometer for distances beyond 100 kilometers. The minimum fare on waterways has been raised from Tk 32 to Tk 35.
Sheikh Rabiul said efforts were made to keep the fare increase at the minimum level considering the need to prevent excessive pressure on the public.
The minister said, “Increasing fares is desirable for no one. However, when fuel prices rise, it affects the transport sector in one way or another. We made every effort to ensure that passengers face less pressure. Although launch owners had various demands, the amount of the fare increase was kept at the minimum level through discussions.”
He said, “The fare increase applied to the first 100 kilometers will also be adjusted at the prescribed rate for the next 100 kilometers. Fares on waterways are determined based on a minimum distance of 10 kilometers. Therefore, the minimum fare has been set at Tk 35.”
Earlier, following the increase in fuel prices in the country, bus fares on long distance routes and in cities including the capital were increased by 17 poisha per kilometer.
