Special Response Battalion (SRB) Director General (DG) Additional IGP Md Ahsan Habib Palash said he had no security concerns about Durga Puja and there is no information about sabotage or extremist attack.
He made these remarks after the inspection at the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
Palash added that the SRB took special security measures nationwide to prevent untoward incidents, sabotage, or ill attempts to disrupt communal harmony surrounding the puja.
Patrols are ongoing daily with nearly 6,500 members, alongside 550 pickups and 450 motorcycles. In addition to surveillance at individual mandaps, SRB remains active online to prevent rumors and provocation.
Noting that the SRB is prepared round-the-clock to tackle potential threat, he said surveillance through various means, including intelligence analysis and cyber monitoring, is continuing to counter the risk of sabotage or extremist attacks centering Durga Puja. So far, no such information has been received.
The SRB DG informed that 15 battalions of the force are working in their areas to maintain security until Thursday. Members of the SRB Dog Squad and Bomb Disposal Unit are conducting regular sweeping operations at important mandaps and various locations.
A Special Force Team and a number of reserve members are ready to handle emergency situations. Palash confirmed that extra caution will be exercised on the day of idol immersion.
