Bangladesh's delegation boycotted Israeli President Isaac Herzog's speech at the seventh summit of Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia
(CICA) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. To protest Israel's continued aggression against Palestinians and violations of international law, they walked out of the conference hall led by State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this in a press release today, Thursday.
The press release said that as soon as Isaac Herzog's speech began, members of the Bangladesh delegation left the conference hall. In addition, representatives of several other member states also boycotted the Israeli president's speech.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this step was taken to show solidarity with Palestine's sovereignty and its right to establish an independent state.
At this CICA, or Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, heads of state and government and high-level representatives from various Asian countries are participating. Bangladesh's stance at the summit is being seen as a reflection of Dhaka's long-standing support and solidarity on the Palestine issue.
