At the beginning of autumn, the country’s sky is expected to remain partly cloudy with intermittent sunshine. Scattered light to moderate rain may occur in some parts of the country today, Sunday. However, the northern and northeastern regions are likely to see a higher chance of rainfall.

According to a forecast by private weather organization Bangladesh Weather Observation Team Limited, comparatively more areas of Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

In addition, scattered thunderstorms are possible in some areas of Rangpur, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions. Elsewhere in the country, light rain may occur in one or two places.

At present, the country’s rain belt is less active. However, there is a risk of moderate to severe lightning in rain prone areas of Sylhet, Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions today. In such conditions, people have been advised to stay in a safe shelter whenever they hear thunder.

However, the intensity of lightning may remain lower in coastal areas and the central region of the country. Temporary gusty winds may occur before or during rainfall, but there is no risk of hail or Kalbaishakhi storms.

Regarding temperatures, the country’s daytime temperatures may remain almost unchanged. However, during breaks in rainfall, many areas of Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, Dhaka and Rangpur divisions may experience uncomfortable humid heat. In one or two places, temperatures could even approach a mild heat wave.

Regarding maritime weather, a system has formed in the Bay of Bengal, which may later develop into a low-pressure area. As a result, the deeper parts of the northern Bay of Bengal remain quite rough. A warning may be issued later.

In the 24 hours until 6 pm on August 22, the country’s highest rainfall of 25 millimeters was recorded in Rangamati. During this period, the country’s highest temperature was 36.8 degrees Celsius in Ishwardi and the lowest temperature was 25 degrees Celsius in Bandarban.

The sun rose in Dhaka at 5:37 am today and will set at 6:25 pm.
