As the final days of Ashwin approach, winter has begun to make its presence felt in Dinajpur, a northern district bordering India. Although temperatures remain warm during the day due to sunlight over the past few days, the weather changes soon after sunset. Mild cold is being felt from midnight until dawn as nighttime temperatures have started to fall.
According to the district weather office, this change in weather has been observed since the beginning of October. While the daytime high remains above 30 degrees Celsius, temperatures fall to 22 to 23 degrees Celsius late at night. The combination of daytime heat and nighttime chill has created a different atmosphere in nature.
Meteorologists and local residents said recent light rainfall has increased the amount of moisture in the upper atmosphere. As a result, light fog can be seen settling over crop fields and rural dirt roads in the early morning. Especially in rural areas, sunlight can be seen emerging through the fog at dawn, signaling the arrival of winter.
Meanwhile, the sudden change in weather has prompted residents to turn off their fans at home and wrap themselves in quilts or light blankets.
Akbar Ali, a resident of Parbatipur upazila, said winter arrived somewhat earlier this year. However, the combination of hot days and cold nights has also led to a slight increase in seasonal illnesses such as colds and coughs.
The weather office said nighttime temperatures may continue to fall gradually as the seasonal monsoon winds begin to withdraw from the northern and northeastern parts of the country. The feeling of winter is expected to become more noticeable in the coming days.
