The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has announced a monthlong series of programs to commemorate the martyrs and injured victims of the historic July-August Mass Uprising and reinforce national unity against fascism.
The announcement was made Tuesday through a press release signed by Md. Jahangir Alam, office secretary of the JCD Central Committee.
According to the statement, the programs have been organized to mark the second anniversary of the student-public uprising, which the organization described as a historic victory.
The observance will begin in the early hours of July 1. As part of the opening event, JCD will hold a special program titled ‘Illuminated Memories’ at the Central Shaheed Minar at 11:00 pm Tuesday.
The event will include the singing of the national anthem and a candlelight tribute in memory of those who were killed during the July-August uprising.
The chief guest will be Prime Minister's Political Adviser and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Special guests will include Parliamentary Whip and BNP Central Executive Committee Student Affairs Secretary Rakibul Islam Bakul.
JCD said the monthlong programs aim to preserve the historical legacy of the mass uprising, recognize the contributions of all those involved, and strengthen national unity. In addition to the central program, similar events will be held in phases by JCD units across the country.
