Sports can help eliminate the drug problem spreading among the youth while also increasing Bangladesh’s recognition on the international stage, said State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Engineer Ishraque Hossain.
He made the remarks on Friday at the Tape Ball BCL 2026 grand final organized by the Bangladesh Tape Ball Cricket Board (BTCB) at the East Chandra Sporting Club ground in Kaliakair, Gazipur.
Ishraque Hossain said sports are also connected to our national identity. A country’s identity can also be projected internationally through sports. In 1971, the Independent Bangladesh Football Team was formed, which also played a role in the great Liberation War.
The State Minister for Liberation War Affairs said, “I believe we have got a capable State Minister for Sports, and sports is a priority sector for our Prime Minister.”
Ishraque Hossain further said Brazil and Argentina are extremely well known in Bangladesh as football teams. “We also want Bangladesh to gain recognition around the world in various sports.”
Also present at the event were State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, Gazipur 1 constituency lawmaker Md. Mazibur Rahman, and local BNP leaders.
