Dhaka has sought New Delhi's cooperation to ensure that fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with any individuals linked to banned organisations, are not allowed to use Indian territory to deliver political speeches or carry out activities aimed at creating instability within Bangladesh.

The matter was raised on Monday afternoon during a courtesy meeting between the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Advisor, Humayun Kabir, and the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon. During the meeting, Adviser Kabir expressed concern that such activities could damage the positive progress of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The discussion also addressed reports circulating on social media suggesting that the ousted Prime Minister might make a public statement on August 5—the second anniversary of her fleeing the country following a massive student-led uprising. In response, High Commissioner Trivedi assured the Adviser that India would consider the matter appropriately, conduct the necessary inquiries, and remain vigilant regarding the issue.

During the meeting, both sides discussed various aspects of the existing bilateral relationship and issues of mutual interest. They emphasised the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and constructive engagement, expressing optimism that long-term and sustainable solutions to all issues could be achieved through mutual trust and discussion. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening and advancing bilateral ties based on mutual respect, trust, and shared interests.
