A rare pink albino buffalo named ‘Donald Trump’ has become a major attraction at the National Zoo in Dhaka during the Eid holidays. After going viral on social media, the animal has drawn strong public curiosity, bringing visitors of all ages to the zoo from the morning of Eid day.
At block L-7 of the zoo, visitors gathered in much larger numbers compared to other animal enclosures. Many took photos and videos, while others livestreamed the scene on social media. Several visitors also showed the animal to children, creating a lively and festive atmosphere across the area.
Zoo Director Rafiqul Islam said Eid-ul-Azha usually does not bring large crowds. He said this year was no different. He added that around 30,000 to 35,000 visitors normally come on Fridays, and the turnout was similar today. He noted that the buffalo named ‘Donald Trump’ became the main attraction.
Kawsar Ahmed, who came from Jatrabari, said he visited after seeing the animal go viral on Facebook. He said curiosity brought him to the zoo during the Eid holiday, where he found large crowds gathered to see the buffalo.
Abdullah Ali, who visited with his son, said his child wanted to see the buffalo after watching videos on social media. He said his son kept talking about seeing ‘Donald Trump’, so he brought him to the zoo.
The buffalo first gained attention at a cattle market during the Eid-ul-Azha season. After its photos spread on social media, it quickly went viral. Local media and several international outlets later reported on the story, increasing public interest further.
Although the animal was initially intended for slaughter during Eid, it was later saved after intervention from the Ministry of Home Affairs. On Wednesday night, it was sent to the Dhaka Zoo instead of a slaughterhouse.
