The Election Commission has completed the preliminary scrutiny of nomination papers for 13 candidates from the Jamaat-e-Islami alliance for the reserved women's seats in the 13th National Parliament. However, additional documentation has been requested regarding NCP candidate Monira Sharmin.
On Wednesday (April 22), Md. Moin Uddin Khan, the Returning Officer for the reserved women's seats, provided this information at the Election Building in Agargaon, the capital.
The Returning Officer said the nomination papers of 13 candidates nominated by Jamaat have been initially verified. The candidates include Nurunnisa Siddiqua, Marzia Begum, Sabikun Nahar Munni, Mardia Momtaz, Najmun Nahar Nilu, Mahfuza Siddika, Sajeda Samad, Samsun Nahar, Monira Sharmin, Mahmuda Alam, Tasmia Prodhan, and Mahbuba Hakim.
Meanwhile, Monira Sharmin, the Joint Convener of the NCP who submitted her nomination, has been given until 12:00 PM tomorrow, Thursday, to submit the required documents. Complications have arisen regarding her nomination.
Returning Officer Md. Moin Uddin Khan explained that Monira Sharmin mentioned her previous profession as a government service holder in her nomination paper. She also included details regarding the government salary scale in her statement. Consequently, detailed evidentiary documents regarding this matter have been requested from her.
According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), any individual cannot participate in parliamentary elections until three years have elapsed since their retirement or resignation from public service.
Monira Sharmin joined Bangladesh Krishi Bank on November 11, 2023, and subsequently left the job in December of last year. Since only four months have passed since her resignation, there is a legal possibility that her nomination may be canceled.
