Instructions have been given to suspend all types of purchases and tenders of local government institutions for the time being.
This instruction came today, Thursday, from the Local Government Division. It said that this decision will remain in force until new procurement rules are formulated.
However, it was said that purchases related to state emergency matters will remain outside the purview of this order, though the "emergency" matters were not clarified.
In a circular of the Local Government Division, it was said that until the formulation of new rules under the Public Procurement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026 is completed and a new rate schedule is published, all new or ongoing tender and procurement processes related to works, services, and supply of goods will remain suspended. However, this decision will not apply in the case of state emergency matters.
The relevant departments and organizations have been asked to comply with this decision until further instructions are given.
As relevant departments, this instruction has been sent to the chief executive officers of all city corporations, the managing director of WASA, the chief engineers of the Local Government Engineering Department and the Department of Public Health Engineering, the chief executive officers of district councils, the administrators of upazila parishads, and the administrators of municipalities.
This means that all tender processes for purchases in city corporations, district councils, upazila parishads, municipalities, and WASA will remain suspended for the time being.
