Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has arrived at the Mongla naval base in Bagerhat. He reached the BNS Mongla naval jetty by waterway at around 1 pm on Thursday.
The prime minister left his residence by road for Tejgaon Airport at 8:30 am on Thursday. He arrived at the airport at 9 am and departed by helicopter for the Sundarbans. Around 10 am, he surveyed various areas of the Sundarbans from the helicopter, including Hiron Point.
After visiting the Sundarbans, the helicopter carrying the prime minister landed at the grounds of Nalian Secondary School in Dakop upazila of Khulna at around 10:30 am. He then traveled by waterway to the BNS naval base in Mongla.
According to his tour schedule, the prime minister will attend a meeting in the wardroom conference room at 1:45 pm after a lunch break. The divisional commissioner of Khulna and the deputy commissioners of Khulna and Bagerhat will attend the meeting along with other relevant officials.
At around 2:45 pm, he will depart to inspect the jetty at Mongla Port. Upon arrival, the prime minister will inspect port operations and related infrastructure. He will then leave for the proposed new economic zone at around 3:15 pm.
After completing his visit, the prime minister is scheduled to depart for Dhaka by helicopter from the helipad at around 4 pm.
Local authorities have strengthened security in Mongla and surrounding areas ahead of the prime minister’s visit.
Officials familiar with the arrangements said the visit is not part of a political program. Rather, it has been organized to assess the potential of the port, the economic zone and the Sundarbans. Accordingly, the authorities have prioritized the presence of designated senior government officials and representatives of relevant departments, along with security arrangements, instead of large gatherings of party leaders and activists at the scheduled venues.
