The High Court has sought an explanation as to why 208 expatriate July fighters, who endured imprisonment and torture abroad for their role in the 2024 movement, should not receive Tk 2.5 million each in compensation.
The court has asked the concerned authorities, including the Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare, to respond to the rule.
The order was issued on Monday (May 4) by a High Court bench led by Justice Fatema Najib.
Barrister H M Sanzid Siddiqui represented the petitioner during the hearing.
He stated that among the 208 individuals, 57 workers were convicted in the United Arab Emirates during the July movement. The government has officially recognized all 208, including those 57, as July fighters.
