Journalist Farzana Rupa admitted to hospital

Farzana Rupa, a former chief reporter of Ekattor Television who has been in jail in connection with a murder case, has been admitted to Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) Hospital.
Confirming the matter on Wednesday (September 2), the DIG (Health) of the Prison Directorate, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Akhtar Hasib Dewan, said that on Sunday, on the advice of specialist doctors, Rupa was transferred from prison to BMU.
The Superintendent of Munshiganj District Jail, Md. Jannat-ul Farhad, said that Rupa fell ill at the prison on Sunday evening and was subsequently shifted to the prison cell at BMU Hospital. She is currently receiving treatment there. She is suffering from fatty liver and gynaecological complications.
Farzana Rupa was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 21, 2024. The following day, on August 22, a court granted a four-day remand for her in the murder case of Fazlul Karim filed at Uttara East Police Station. Later, she was shown arrested in various cases related to the July movement and sent on remand multiple times. Most recently, she has been shown arrested in the Shapla Chattar murder case.
