Four-month-old Jurais, suffering from measles, had been fighting for his life for the past four days in the general ward of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Dhaka. Although his condition continued to deteriorate, his parents were unable to shift him to an ICU due to financial constraints. After repeated efforts, the infant has finally been admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU).
On Friday, hospital authorities transferred Jurais from the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Dhaka to a private facility for ICU treatment. He was admitted to the ICU of Olympus Hospital in Dhaka around 12:00 pm. Doctors said the child remains in a critical condition.
Doctors further said the infant is on life support and they are making maximum efforts to save him. They urged the parents to remain patient and prayed for the child’s recovery.
Outside the ICU, Jurais’s father broke down in tears, saying, “Doctors at the Infectious Diseases Hospital advised ICU admission four days ago. But we could not afford it. We have taken on heavy debt. If I had been able to bring my child to the ICU four days earlier, his condition would not have worsened this much.”
The child’s father, Saiful, who came from Patuakhali for treatment, said each injection costs 17,000 taka and the child needs five injections. He managed to arrange money for one injection with help from hospital staff. He is now struggling to arrange funds for the remaining doses and has appealed for assistance, as he waits in hope for his child’s survival.
