Over the past 24 hours (from 8:00 AM Monday to 8:00 AM Tuesday), 11 more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms. During this period, 1,337 new pediatric cases were reported. This information was revealed in a report by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.
According to the report, two children died from confirmed cases of measles within the 24-hour window, while nine others passed away with measles symptoms. Additionally, 1,337 children were newly infected with the disease. Earlier on Tuesday, an order signed by Professor Dr. Jalal Uddin Mohammad Rumee, Director (Administration) of the DGHS, cancelled all leaves for health institution personnel.
The order stated that due to a rise in measles-related pneumonia outbreaks among children, all types of leave for doctors, officers, staff, and health workers under the DGHS and its affiliated health institutions have been cancelled to tackle the emergency situation.
It further specified that earned leave and casual leave for employees under the DGHS have been suspended or cancelled to ensure uninterrupted medical services during this crisis and to strengthen the measles vaccination campaign. The directive, issued with the approval of the appropriate authorities, takes effect immediately.
