UN Peacekeeping a Unique Initiative

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman

On the occasion of International Day of UN Peacekeepers, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said UN peacekeeping operations are a unique initiative in ensuring global peace, stability, and human security.

Extending sincere greetings and deep respect to peacekeepers around the world, he said they continue to work with great courage, patience, and dedication to restore peace in conflict and violence affected regions facing humanitarian crises. The Prime Minister made these remarks in a message issued on Tuesday marking the day.

He also paid deep tribute to the brave peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty for global peace. Noting that their sacrifices will remain forever in the nation’s history, he expressed profound sympathy for injured and affected peacekeepers, as well as their family members.

In the message, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh has long played a significant role in UN peacekeeping operations. Bangladeshi peacekeepers have enhanced the country’s reputation by demonstrating professionalism, skill, and humanitarian values in various missions across the world. Their contributions have further strengthened Bangladesh’s position in the international arena.

He said that Bangladeshi female peacekeepers are also making important contributions to international peacekeeping efforts. Through their skills, leadership, and professional competence, they have earned global recognition, reflecting both women’s empowerment and Bangladesh’s development.

Stressing that a safe and peaceful world can be built on mutual respect, cooperation, and tolerance, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh will continue to actively participate in UN peacekeeping initiatives in the future. He called on all to work together to build a better and safer world grounded in the values of peace, humanity, and harmony.
