Twenty-eight police personnel working at different police stations and units under the Khulna Range have been withdrawn over allegations of receiving unethical benefits beyond their salaries and allowances. Those withdrawn include personnel ranging from cooks to sub-inspectors (SIs). The decision was taken on Friday by the office of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Khulna Range.

According to relevant sources, the personnel were withdrawn following allegations of irregularities and receiving unethical benefits against police members working in different districts and units under the Khulna Range. The list includes personnel serving at various police stations and units in Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore, Jhenaidah, Kushtia and Chuadanga. Those affected include members of the traffic police and detective branch as well as police station personnel.

The responsibilities of the police include enforcing the law, preventing crime and ensuring public safety. When any member of the force receives unethical benefits for personal gain while performing their duties, it affects the image of the entire force. In particular, allegations of bias in exchange for money or other benefits in important matters such as filing cases, investigations or operations can undermine public trust in the rule of law.

According to relevant sources, one of the main objectives of increasing police salaries, allowances and other benefits is to ensure their financial security and encourage them to perform their professional duties. However, attempts by any personnel to obtain additional benefits through unethical means despite receiving these facilities raise concerns about discipline and accountability within the force. In such cases, administrative measures such as withdrawal or transfer alone are not enough. The allegations must be verified through impartial investigations, followed by necessary departmental and legal action against those found responsible.

DIG of Khulna Range Mohammad Rezaul Karim said the current government has a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, drugs and terrorism. To implement this policy, a cleanup drive is first being conducted within the police force.

He further said the tendency among police personnel to receive unethical benefits creates obstacles to maintaining law and order and building public trust in the force.

Rezaul Karim also said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had instructed authorities to take strict action against those receiving unethical benefits. As part of implementing that directive, the cleanup drive is being conducted simultaneously across different units in the Khulna Division.
