Lover disappears with girlfriend, clashes erupt between their villages

A romantic relationship between a young man and a young woman from two villages in Dirai, Sunamganj, led to a clash between residents of the villages after the couple recently eloped.
At least 15 people from both sides were injured in the incident.
The clash took place between residents of Matiapur and Halimpur villages under Karimpur Union on Wednesday afternoon.
According to sources, Ramadan Mia, son of Aftaf Ali from Matiapur village, eloped with the daughter of Gias Uddin from Halimpur village. The incident led to an exchange of heated words between the two sides. At one point, residents from both villages engaged in a clash using locally made sharp weapons.
Upon receiving the information, a police team led by Dirai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Aminul Islam reached the scene and brought the situation under control. The injured were rescued and admitted to Dirai Health Complex.
Dirai Police Station OC Md. Aminul Islam confirmed the incident and said the situation remained under control following police intervention.
