A hand bomb was first thrown at my head and then I was shot during the clash between Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir at Dhaka Alia yesterday, claimed Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal Member Secretary Rabiul Islam Nayon.
According to him, he wore a helmet for his own safety at the request of his political colleagues.
The Jubo Dal leader made the claim in a post on his Facebook page today, Wednesday.
According to Rabiul Islam Nayon, he was stationed in Shahbagh on August 4, 2024, during the movement to oust autocrat Sheikh Hasina from power. He said the memories of that day still haunt him. He claimed that he faced a similar situation on Tuesday.
‘The attackers were targeting my head. A hand bomb was thrown first, followed by gunfire. However, as I wore a helmet at the request of my political colleagues, it was possible to avoid serious harm,’ he said.
Nayon further claimed that police did not provide them with any assistance during the incident. Rather, he alleged that the police assisted Chhatra Shibir.
In the post, he alleged that Jamaat and Islami Chhatra Shibir were conspiring with the ousted Awami League to obstruct the development and progress of the BNP government.
Jubo Dal leader Nayon issued a warning to Chhatra Shibir. He said, ‘If there is any conspiracy against the country, Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal will remain on the streets and resist it. At the same time, he claimed that if such activities continue, they will be dealt with strictly.’
Earlier, on Tuesday, Jubo Dal leader Rabiul Islam Nayon was seen at the scene during the clash between Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir in the Dhaka Alia Madrasa area, wearing a white panjabi, a helmet on his head and holding a pipe in his hand. He was seen running from one place to another and taking positions with Chhatra Dal activists.
