Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said no warning signs of heart disease can be ignored.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting organized by the Bangladesh Cardiac Society on Tuesday at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka on the occasion of World Heart Day 2026.
Sakhawat added that among non-communicable diseases, most people die from heart disease. Therefore, there is no alternative to awareness in the prevention and control of heart disease. Everyone is aware and realizes the importance of awareness, but many times that awareness is not applied effectively in real life.
He warned that this tendency is risky when it comes to heart disease. Without neglecting any warning sign of the heart, it is necessary to consult a doctor quickly. Public awareness is crucial not only for heart disease but for the prevention and control of all types of diseases - both communicable and non-communicable.
Sakhawat said after The Almighty, doctors are people’s place of reliance. In people’s times of distress, doctors are the first to stand by their side. From the pandemic during the coronavirus period to dengue and various natural disasters, doctors and healthcare workers remained dedicated to serving people without thinking of their own lives and safety.
He noted that their humanitarian and professional sense of duty is exemplary for the country’s people.
Mohammad Safiuddin, convenor of the Bangladesh Cardiac Society, presided over the meeting. Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) Nazmul Hasan and Prime Minister’s Assistant Personal Physician ANM Monowarul Quadir, among others, attended the event as special guests.
