A memorial sculpture will be built to make Rajshahi College’s 150th anniversary memorable for future generations, Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu said. He said the glorious history of Rajshahi College is equally recognized not only in Bangladesh but also internationally. Therefore, the 150th anniversary celebration will be a grand reunion of all generations of the Rajshahi College family.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a preparatory meeting held Friday at Hare Road in the capital to mark the 150th anniversary of the historic Rajshahi College.

The land minister said Rajshahi College is not merely an educational institution. It is a bearer and carrier of education and culture in the northern region. “Rajshahi College is the mother of us all. Like the children of a mother, all former and current students of this institution must be brought under one umbrella to celebrate the 150th anniversary.”

He said the 150th anniversary celebration and reunion of former students will create a bridge between current and former students. The event will be a celebration of unity, heritage and identity.

Referring to Rajshahi College’s 150 years of glorious history and heritage and its contribution to producing many prominent personalities, he urged all former students living at home and abroad to join the event through registration. He also said committees could be formed with alumni from different continents if necessary to make the historic reunion memorable.

The land minister further said initiatives have been taken with government assistance to implement various infrastructure projects at Rajshahi College. These include a modern multistory academic building, a state-of-the-art auditorium, new residential facilities for male and female students and development of the historic playground.

Rajshahi College Principal Professor Dr. Md. Ibrahim Ali presided over the event. Special guests included Rajshahi 3 constituency lawmaker Advocate Mohammad Shofiqul Haque Milon, ACC Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman Khan, Rajshahi Development Authority Chairman Md. Abul Kalam Azad Sweet and former Home Secretary S. M. Zahurul Islam.

Current and former senior officials, members of the college’s alumni association, teachers, former and current students, political leaders, distinguished citizens and media workers were also present at the event.
