Chhatra Dal and Shibir face off at Dhaka College after Jagannath University, 27 injured

Following Jagannath University, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir and Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal faced off at Dhaka College. At least 20 Shibir and seven Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were injured in attacks between the two sides. The incident took place at Gallery No. 2 of Dhaka College at around 1 pm Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, the college unit of Chhatra Shibir had organized a discussion program at Gallery No. 2 to mark the second anniversary of the July uprising, as announced earlier. Chhatra Dal leaders and activists allegedly launched a sudden attack while banners for the program were being put up.
Abdul Malek, office secretary of the college unit of Chhatra Shibir, was injured in the attack. He was admitted to Popular Medical College Hospital. After noticing the presence of Shibir leaders and activists in Nilkhet, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists chased them with sticks and other objects.
College unit Chhatra Shibir Finance Secretary Mamun Sheikh told the media, “We had organized a program titled ‘Our Expectations and Achievements of the July Uprising.’ Our leaders and activists were peacefully putting up posters in front of the gallery. At that time, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists suddenly attacked us. Around 20 of our people were injured. One person suffered a head injury.”
On the day, college unit Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Millad Hossain was positioned in front of the campus main gate. He said, “In the morning, Shibir launched a well planned attack on our brothers with the intention of killing them. We are here to ensure the safety of our workers and students. No activities of terrorists will be allowed on this campus. We will resist Shibir terrorists. We will not allow them to carry out politics on this campus under any circumstances.”
Earlier in the morning, Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists engaged in several rounds of chasing and counter chasing and clashes at an event held at the central auditorium of Jagannath University in the presence of the UGC chairman.
