On the Prime Minister's directive, the Narsingdi District Administration has stood by Altaf Hossain Dukhu Mia, the indomitable teacher from Narsingdi who was born without any hands. On Monday (October 12) morning, Narsingdi's Deputy Commissioner Israt Jahan Keya visited Protiva Dukhu Mia Kindergarten in the Pachdona area of Sadar Upazila and spent some time with the school's teachers and students.
On October 2, a report titled "Some People Never Give In" was published on the front page of "Agamir Somoy." The report sparked discussion across the country. When the report came to the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's attention, the Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi was instructed to inspect the school. She appeared by teacher Dukhu Mia's side with various gifts.
At that time, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Asma Jahan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Meftahul Hasan, and district administration officials were present.
At that time, Deputy Commissioner Israt Jahan Keya said that recently a report was published in the media about the teaching of the indomitable teacher Dukhu Mia, who has no hands. When the matter came to the attention of the honorable Prime Minister, instructions were given to learn more about him and his school. On behalf of the government, assistance has already been promised for the school's registration and infrastructure development. She distributed school bags, various toys, and tree saplings to each student of the school. In addition, she provided financial assistance to Dukhu Mia. The district administration will work toward making Dukhu Mia's dream come true.
Meanwhile, Altaf Hossain Dukhu Mia, head teacher of the school he founded on his own initiative in 2007, said he is happy that the current head of government has learned about his school. His dream is to transform the school into a high school. He expressed hope that with the support of the government and the administration, Protiva Dukhu Mia School will flourish. He also thanked the reporter, editor, and authorities of "Agamir Somoy." He mentioned that their report stirred responses across the country. After that, reports about him were also published in various media outlets.
Even without hands, Dukhu Mia's life struggle has not stopped. He continues to teach children every day by writing on the blackboard with his feet. Currently, 145 children from nursery to fifth grade are studying at the school.
Born in 1962, Altaf Hossain's body was defective. In childhood, he developed the habit of writing with his feet. His father taught him to write with his feet by mixing pot ink with water and having him write on reed sticks and banana leaves. After that, he passed secondary, higher secondary, and his degree using those same feet.
After finishing his education, the struggle for employment began. He applied to various government and private institutions hoping for a job and traveled to many places. But disappointment could not stop him. Adding money from selling land given by his father, he founded Protiva Dukhu Mia Kindergarten in 2007 on his ancestral land.
