Resident students of Dhaka University's (DU) Fazlul Haq Muslim Hall have confined the hall provost to his office. They started protesting around 8 PM on Sunday, demanding the provost's resignation over allegations of harassing a student.
Around 9:30 PM, Asif Abdullah, Transport Secretary of DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu), and Khandaker Abu Naim, Vice President of Fazlul Haq Muslim Hall Sangsad, made announcements to the students. Following that, the students took position to keep the provost confined inside his office.
At this point, inside the provost's office are Provost Professor Dr. Md. Elias Al-Mamun, Assistant Proctor Dr. Enamul Haque Sajib, and several house tutors of the hall. On the other hand, students are positioned outside the office.
Among the students outside are Mazharul Islam, Ducsu Career and Development Secretary; Arman, Sports Secretary; AB Zubayer, Social Service Secretary; and Mossadeq Ali Ibn Mohammad, Secretary for Literature and Culture, along with leaders from various hall Sangsad. Additionally, Khandaker Abu Naim, VP of Fazlul Haq Muslim Hall Sangsad, and GS Imamul Hasan are also present. From 8 PM to 10 PM, leaders and activists of the National Student Strength's Dhaka University branch were also present there.
During this time, students chanted various slogans, including "One two three four, Provost leave your chair," demanding the provost's resignation.
Earlier, it was alleged that the provost called Mohammad Ibrahim, a student of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, to his room and harassed him over a social media post highlighting various problems of the hall. The student alleged that he was kept confined for about an hour and a half and subjected to verbal and physical harassment. He also claimed that at one point, the provost called his mother and threatened her.
