58 DU teachers accused of efforts to bring back Hasina identified, committee formed

The University of Dhaka (DU) has formed a three member high level committee to review the overall issues concerning several of its teachers who have been accused of engaging in clandestine activities against the state and to determine the course of action and provide recommendations.
Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro Vice Chancellor (Education) of the university, has been appointed convener of the committee. The other two members are Professor Dr. Md. Mofazzal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ekramul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Law.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued by the Public Relations Office of the University of Dhaka at around 6:30 pm Thursday. The release said the committee has already begun its formal activities.
Professor Dr. Mofazzal Hossain, a member of the committee, told Agamir Somoy, “The committee was formed some time ago. However, we have not yet formally started the investigation process. We are planning to sit on this matter next week.”
The release said several reports recently published in various media outlets had come to the attention of the University of Dhaka authorities. The reports alleged that 404 teachers from 22 universities across the country were secretly involved in efforts to bring fugitive convict Sheikh Hasina, who has been sentenced to death, back to the country and to rehabilitate and activate a political party that has been banned.
The reports claimed that 92 teachers of the University of Dhaka were directly involved in such activities.
The university administration said that, among the 92 individuals mentioned in the reports, the names and identities of 58 teachers have already been confirmed or identified. The investigation committee will examine the roles of the identified teachers and will also investigate the matter if the names of any others emerge.
After reviewing the overall matter, the committee will submit necessary recommendations to the university authorities.
