The government has reversed its earlier decision to admit students to government and private schools through admission tests instead of lotteries. Starting from the 2027 academic year, no admission test will be held for first grade. Instead, students will be admitted to class one through a lottery.
The Ministry of Education announced the decision in a notice on Thursday afternoon.
The notice said students will be admitted to all other grades of primary and secondary schools through admission tests.
In March, Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon had announced the cancellation of the lottery system. At a press conference on March 16, the education minister said, “At the beginning of the year, for admissions, we are going to introduce a system of holding examinations instead of lotteries. I am announcing this in advance so that everyone gets an opportunity.”
“We withdrew the lottery system, that’s it,” the education minister added.
