Teachers to take to the streets protesting transfers over knee-deep water exam incident

During the HSC examinations, students at Cumilla Government Women's College had to wade through knee-deep water to reach their exam centre due to waterlogging. In response to this incident, the Ministry of Education transferred seven teachers of the college. Terming the ministry's decision as discourteous and harassing, teachers and officials of the BCS (General Education) cadre are now set to take to the streets in protest, along with several demands including promotions.
Under the banner of "General Education Cadre Teachers and Officials," they have announced a sit-in programme, a protest rally, and a memorandum submission tomorrow (Sunday) at 11:30 AM at the premises of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) in the capital. Teacher leaders have warned that the agitation and continuous sit-in at the DSHE premises will continue until their demands are met.
Their demands include: the immediate withdrawal of the discourteous and harassing transfer orders; identifying the actual individuals responsible for the waterlogging at the centre and the extreme suffering of examinees and guardians, and bringing them under transfer and punishment; resuming promotions and stopping harassment; and strongly protesting the violation of existing rules in the first posting of assistant teachers in Dhaka and divisional cities. The cadre officials also demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
Organising teacher leaders said that cadre officials across the country have united under the main slogan—"Let humiliation, harassment, oppression, and all deprivations end; let teaching be liberated." They stated that the movement will continue until their legitimate demands are met.
