Official Suspended Over Leak of Primary Scholarship Results

Assistant Maintenance Engineer Md. Mehtab Qayes

Assistant Maintenance Engineer Md. Mehtab Qayes of the Directorate of Primary Education has been temporarily suspended by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education over the leak of the Primary Scholarship Examination results before their official publication.

The official was suspended for uploading the Primary Scholarship Examination results to a web portal before they were formally announced by the appropriate authority.

The suspension order was issued on Friday in a notification signed by Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Secretary Sakhawat Hossain.

The notification said: “Md. Mehtab Qayes, Assistant Maintenance Engineer of the Directorate of Primary Education, is hereby temporarily suspended on charges of misconduct under Article 12(1) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, for uploading the results of the Primary Scholarship Examination 2025 to the web portal without following the proper security protocol before the results were published by the appropriate authority.”

According to information in the related letter, the final results of the Primary Scholarship Examination were prepared on July 8. Assistant Maintenance Engineer Mehtab Qayes of the Directorate of Primary Education had been assigned responsibility for creating the necessary links on the web portal to facilitate publication of the results. There were clear instructions that under no circumstances should the results be uploaded to the server before the final announcement.

However, in violation of those instructions, the results of nine districts under Dhaka Division were uploaded to the links on the morning of July 9. Within moments, general users downloaded the results from the links and shared them on social media.

A report prepared by the Directorate’s Information and Communication Technology (IMT) Division found that the prescribed government security protocols were not followed at all in creating the links and uploading the results to the live server.

Meanwhile, the authorities have formed a three-member committee to investigate the unauthorized publication of the results. An office order signed by Director (Administration) Mahbub Irin instructed the committee to submit a detailed investigation report within three working days.

The committee is headed by Md. Mirajul Islam Ukil, Director of Planning and Development at the Directorate. The other members are Education Officer Md. Ziaul Kabir Sumon of the Stipend Division and Assistant Director of Administration-2 Mosammat Rokhsana Haidar.
