Meghna Group donates Tk 10 million for Dhaka University students

A total of Tk 2.16 million in scholarships has been awarded to 90 students of the Marketing Department at the University of Dhaka. The scholarships were provided from the income of a permanent fund formed after Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) donated Tk 10 million.
The scholarship checks were handed to students at the MGI MAA Scholarship 2026 awarding ceremony held at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the University of Dhaka on Wednesday, September 23. Each student received Tk 24,000 as a scholarship.
Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan was the chief guest at the event. University of Dhaka Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam was also present.
The event was jointly organized by the University of Dhaka Marketing Alumni Association (MAA) and Meghna Group of Industries.
Speaking at the event, the Education Minister said, “We must utilize the talent and skills of young people for the development of the country. Along with turning young people into skilled human resources through technical and employment oriented education, they must also be made proficient in modern technology.”
Emphasizing the importance of building effective relations between the education and industrial sectors, he said, “If industrial organizations cooperate with students in training and research, society and the state will benefit from it.”
The Education Minister praised Meghna Group of Industries for donating Tk 10 million to provide scholarships to students. At the same time, he called on other industrial and corporate organizations in the country to come forward to support education and research.
Addressing the students, the Education Minister said, “You must be ambitious about the future and acquire new knowledge and skills to keep pace with changing circumstances. You must move away from the idea that you have to study only one subject and remain in that field for the rest of your life and make your knowledge and skills diverse.”
Speaking at the event, University of Dhaka Vice Chancellor Professor Obaidul Islam said, “We must ensure that no student’s education is disrupted due to financial problems. Alumni and wealthy members of society must come forward to support students in higher education and research.”
The Vice Chancellor said, “A permanent fund of Tk 10 million has been established to provide scholarships to students of the Marketing Department. Along with government funding, support from alumni and corporate organizations is needed to improve education and research at the university. It is essential to establish a central endowment fund to increase the university’s financial capacity.”
Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Islam Chowdhury, president of the Marketing Alumni Association, chaired the event.
University of Dhaka Pro Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Mohammad Almozaddedi Alfesani, Marketing Department Chairman Professor Dr. Sirajul Haque and Meghna Group Director Barrister Tasnim Mostafa were present.
Khondaker Md. Rafik Hasan, general secretary of the Marketing Alumni Association, delivered the welcome address.
At the event, scholarships were awarded to one student from the 2019 to 2020 academic session, two from the 2020 to 2021 session, two from the 2021 to 2022 session, 16 from the 2022 to 2023 session, 14 from the 2023 to 2024 session, 18 from the 2024 to 2025 session and 37 from the 2025 to 2026 session.
