Bangladesh committed to strengthening cooperation with UN

Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening its longstanding partnership with the United Nations. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir said Bangladesh is committed to deepening cooperation with the UN to achieve shared priorities and national development goals.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Carol Flore-Smereczniak, the UN acting resident coordinator in Bangladesh, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
At the meeting, Humayun Kabir expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Flore-Smereczniak for leading the UN Country Team in supporting the implementation of Bangladesh’s development priorities.
The meeting also discussed the prime minister’s various activities during the recently concluded high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The state minister provided a brief overview of the prime minister’s key engagements, including his meeting with the UN secretary-general.
Humayun Kabir emphasized the need for more effective coordination among various UN agencies. He also called for UN programs to be more closely aligned with Bangladesh’s “Five-Year Strategic Framework for Reform and Development (2026–2031).”
The Rohingya crisis was also discussed at the meeting. The state minister praised the UN’s humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya and called for continued UN efforts to ensure their swift and sustainable repatriation to their ancestral homes in Myanmar. According to him, repatriation is the only effective solution to the Rohingya crisis.
The UN acting resident coordinator praised the Bangladesh government for its continued cooperation. She also said the UN is ready to further deepen its partnership with Bangladesh.
Flore-Smereczniak also reaffirmed the UN Country Team’s commitment to working closely with the government to address shared challenges.
