Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram has said ensuring revenue collection, debt management, and maintaining macroeconomic stability are the primary current challenges for the national economy.
He made these remarks today, Sunday, as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of a budget debriefing session organized under the Budget Helpdesk-2026 at the Oath Room of the Parliament Secretariat.
The Speaker said, "Organizing the budget debriefing session is a timely initiative to strengthen parliamentary democracy. Such activities play an important role in increasing the knowledge and capacity of members of parliament regarding the national budget and financial management."
"The Budget Helpdesk is assisting MPs in analyzing the budget based on information and data. Members of Parliament can also utilize the facilities of the Parliament Library to gain a deeper understanding of the government's financial policies and strategies," he added.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmad said, "The interest of MPs in the budget and their active involvement in parliamentary activities will bring positive results for the nation. The public is looking toward this parliament with great anticipation. The roadmap for their future journey will largely be determined from here."
He further noted, "Programs like this, conducted with the cooperation of the European Union to strengthen the parliamentary institution, are helping to meet public expectations by ensuring the effective participation and accountability of Members of Parliament." He later declared the budget debriefing session officially open.
Speaking at the event, Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni said, "The government of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman has presented a realistic and time-befitting budget through the optimal use of limited resources." He claimed that such a good budget has not been seen since independence.
He said, "The Budget Helpdesk is playing an important role in gathering and analyzing necessary data for the Members of Parliament. At one time, collecting budget-related information was difficult. With the support of the European Union, required information is now easily accessible, creating opportunities for a deeper analysis of the budget."
