Thakurgaon 1 seat declared vacant, by election to be held

The Thakurgaon 1 parliamentary seat held by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was elected from the constituency to the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, has been declared vacant after he assumed office as president. The information was announced in a notification signed by the Assistant Director (Public Relations) of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat.
The notification said that the Thakurgaon 1 parliamentary seat became vacant under the Constitution after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assumed office as president.
Meanwhile, a notification signed on Saturday by Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Legislative Support Wing (Law Making Branch 2) of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, said that instructions had been issued to send it to the Government Press for immediate publication in an extra issue of the Bangladesh Gazette. A copy of the notification was also sent to the Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat to take the necessary measures to arrange a by election for the vacant seat.
At the same time, copies were sent to the Cabinet Secretary, the Prime Minister’s Office, the offices of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the office of the Leader of the Opposition and all other relevant offices for their information and necessary action.
