PM’s attendance at BRICS summit is his own decision

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam did not give a definite answer on whether Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the BRICS Summit to be held in India next September. She said the prime minister’s decision on when and where to travel is entirely his own.
Journalists raised the issue during a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday. Responding to a question, the state minister said, “Only time will tell. I cannot say now.”
She said India has already sent an invitation to the prime minister to attend the BRICS Summit. The prime minister remains engaged around the clock in the overall welfare of the country. Therefore, whether he will attend the summit is entirely his own decision. He will do whatever is best for the country.
Shama Obaed said that immediately after Tarique Rahman was elected by an overwhelming vote, the Indian prime minister invited him to visit India with his family.
