Hard disks of 22 computers have been stolen from the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education. In connection with the incident, the division's administrative officer, Md. Abdur Rahim, filed a complaint with Shahbagh Police Station against office assistant Md. Mahabub Hossain of the Public Works Department.
The division's secretary, Abdul Khaleq, confirmed the matter to Agamir Somoy on Sunday night.
"CCTV footage analysis of the office has confirmed the theft of the computers. A written complaint has also been filed with Shahbagh Police Station," said the Secretary of the Higher Education Division.
According to the complaint, at some point between 6:15 PM on 14 June and 8:00 PM on 23 July, hard disks, processors, RAM, coolers, and other components of 22 computers were stolen from various rooms of the Secondary and Higher Education Division. The estimated value of the stolen items is Tk 4 lakh.
The complaint states, "Analysis of CCTV footage during the theft has tentatively identified office assistant Mizanur Rahman as a suspect." It requested the police to accept the complaint, conduct a necessary investigation, and take subsequent legal action.
Relevant sources further said that besides the computer theft, other kitchen items including cups and saucers were also stolen from the 17th floor of the building.
