Simultaneous anti-teen gang drives across 18 police stations in Cumilla, 379 detained

Police have detained 379 individuals following renewed drives against teen gangs across Cumilla. The simultaneous operations were conducted in 18 police stations of the district on Tuesday night.
Md. Lutfur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police in Cumilla, confirmed the matter to Agamir Somoy on Wednesday.
Locals reported that discussions surrounding teen gang activities in Cumilla resurfaced following the murder of Apratim, the 13-year-old child of Dr. Nahida Begum, a faculty member at Comilla University. In response to the incident, police launched a crackdown targeting teen gangs and delinquents on Tuesday night.
Police stated that as part of regular anti-teen gang operations, all units of the district police carried out simultaneous drives in 18 police stations. Operations targeted locations across Cumilla city and various police station areas known for instances of youth nuisance and harassment. Senior officials of the district police also participated directly in the drives.
Police further mentioned that the involvement of the 379 detainees in criminal activities is being verified, and necessary legal actions are being taken accordingly.
Superintendent of Police in Cumilla, Md. Anisuzzaman, said that this police operation serves as a message to juvenile offenders and their families. He emphasized that parents and responsible family members must maintain oversight so that children do not stray off course in the future. He added that the district police are conducting such drives regularly to prevent growing teenagers from getting involved in criminal activities.
