A court has ordered the imprisonment of Gazi Salauddin Tanvir, an expelled leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), who was arrested in connection with a case filed over making offensive posts about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Senior Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan of the Bogura Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court passed the order around 11:30 AM on Wednesday.

Eggs were thrown at Salauddin Tanvir while he was being escorted from the court to jail, as activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) chanted slogans targeting him.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Detective Branch (DB) police arrested Tanvir under the Cyber Protection Act from a residential building in the Manipuri area of the capital. He was subsequently produced before the Bogura Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.

Chhatra Dal leader Rafiul Al Amin said, "Tarique Rahman is the Prime Minister and an illustrious son of Bogura. Tanvir and several others are attempting to destabilize the country by making offensive remarks about him. We demand the maximum punishment for Gazi Salauddin Tanvir without delay."

According to police sources, the case was filed under the Cyber Protection Act following offensive posts directed at Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Facebook. Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel, President of the Bogura Sadar Upazila BNP, filed the lawsuit on August 2.

The case statement notes that the plaintiff observed the offensive post on Gazi Salauddin Tanvir's Facebook account on July 29. The statement alleges that the post contained defamatory and provocative comments, which caused widespread outrage across various circles as it circulated on social media. The post was subsequently deleted following severe backlash.

Iqbal Bahar, Officer-in-Charge of the Bogura DB Police, stated that a remand application would be submitted to interrogate the arrested accused. He added that no untoward incidents occurred within the court premises and that the situation remained under police control.
