Five Arrested After ‘Robbery’ Attempt on RAB in Brahmanbaria

Five people have been arrested in connection with an robbery attempt and attack on the members of the Rapid Action Battalion-9 in Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria. Several locally made weapons were also seized during the operation.
RAB-9 arrested some suspects during raids carried out from Monday night to Tuesday morning in Khagatoa village under Ratanpur Union.
The information was disclosed at a press conference held on Tuesday (12 May) at noon at the RAB-9 Crime Prevention Company office in South Pairatala of the district town.
The arrested individuals are Chhanowara Begum (48), Abdul Qadir (62), Md Rahim Ahmed (20), Abdur Rahman alias Apu Mia (19), and Nur Alam alias Nurnabi (19), all residents of Khagatoa village. RAB said Abdul Qadir was one of the key attackers.
Commander of the RAB-9 Brahmanbaria camp, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Nurnabi, said that on Monday afternoon three RAB intelligence officers went to Banchharampur to collect information. On their way, their motorcycle was stopped in Khagatoa village of Nabinagar by members of the notorious robber gang known as Shafik Bahini.
The attackers took the RAB personnel hostage at their hideout and assaulted them. After receiving the information, other RAB members rushed to the area, rescued the officers, and took them to the Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
RAB said that during the subsequent operation to arrest the accused, gang leader Shafik managed to flee, but five attackers were detained. These details were shared at the press conference.
