Police arrest 2 in teacher’s death in Dhaka

Police announced the arrest of two people in teacher Ranjina Parveen’s death in Parliament area, Dhaka, after questions arose over RAB’s earlier arrests of three individuals in the case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter on Wednesday. A press conference has been scheduled for noon at the DMP Media Center to provide detailed information.
Ranjina served as the headmistress of Bagbari Government Girls’ Primary School in Gabtali, Bogura, and her home was located in Tarafsartaj village. On 29 August, Ranjina arrived in Dhaka with her husband Abdul Matin for her eye treatment. After arriving in the morning, they took a rickshaw to go to Islamia Eye Hospital in Farmgate when they encountered hijackers on Manik Mia Avenue.
According to Matin, two hijackers riding a motorcycle snatched Ranjina’s bag in front of the South Plaza, causing her to fall from the rickshaw.
Although she was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, doctors could not save Ranjina. Matin then filed a murder case against two unidentified hijackers at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
The following day, RAB claimed to have arrested two hijackers and recovered the motorcycle. The arrested individuals were identified as Mosharraf Hossain alias Poni Gazi and his associate Cedric, while another person was arrested later.
During RAB’s press conference at the time, Poni said he was not involved in the incident. A color mismatch was observed between the motorcycle visible in the CCTV video footage and the seized motorcycle, raising serious questions regarding RAB’s claims.
