CIID seizes 81.5 liters of foreign liquor at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials seized 81.5 liters of foreign liquor during an operation at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).

CIID confirmed the matter in a press release on Wednesday. The estimated market value of the confiscated alcohol totals Tk 16,30,000.

According to the press release, officers scanned all baggage belonging to Roman Mikailov, a passenger arriving from Dubai on an Emirates flight, as he crossed the Green Channel. The search uncovered 78.5 liters of foreign liquor of various brands.

Because Mikailov holds a foreign passport, authorities permitted him to import 1 liter duty-free under applicable baggage rules and seized the remaining 77.5 liters.

In a separate incident, officers scanned the baggage of Samiul Islam, a passenger arriving on a Turkish Airlines flight, as he walked through the Green Channel, recovering and seizing an additional 4 liters of various brands of foreign liquor.
