Sahed Karim, the chairman of Regent Hospital, has been arrested once again in connection with a case under a warrant issued by Pallabi Police Station.
He was taken into custody on Monday by Cantonment Thana police from the ECB Square area in the capital.
This latest arrest comes after a court had previously sentenced him to three years in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on August 21, 2023, over charges of acquiring illegal wealth. The verdict was delivered by the court of Judge Pradeep Kumar Ray of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-7.
Earlier, on July 6, RAB conducted raids at Regent Hospital's Uttara and Mirpur branches, uncovering various irregularities, including fake COVID-19 test reports and extortion of money from patients under the guise of coronavirus treatment. Following the raids, Sahed went into hiding. He was later arrested by RAB on July 15 from a border area in Satkhira.
