A case has been filed over shots being fired at the personal car of popular singer and former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Asif Akbar. However, police have not yet been able to identify the person who fired the shots.
Law enforcement agencies are collecting CCTV camera footage from the scene and various nearby buildings and analyzing them.
On Saturday (October 24) night, Asif Akbar himself filed the case as complainant at Hatirjheel Police Station in the capital. The matter was confirmed by the station's OC Md. Asaduzzaman.
The case statement said that on Saturday around 4:50 am, while Asif Akbar was in his office room, he heard a loud noise from below. Later, going to the parking area, he saw the glass of the rear right-side door of his car broken. After that, he returned to the office and reviewed the CCTV camera footage.
Citing analysis of the footage, the case statement said that a person got out of a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw coming from Mogbazar along the road under the Wireless flyover and went to the car parking area of the Bishal Center. There he fired at the glass of the rear right-side door of Asif Akbar's car. Later, the person fled the scene in the auto-rickshaw.
The case statement further said that after informing the police, police visited the scene and recovered a fragment of the bullet. Asif Akbar also mentioned in the case that the car's glass was broken, causing damage of approximately 20,000 taka.
When asked whether the person who fired the shots had been identified, Deputy Commissioner Ibne Mizan of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Tejgaon Division said CCTV footage has been collected from the scene and various nearby buildings and locations. Analysis is underway. No notable progress can be reported yet.
