Man killed after being thrown out of house, knife attacked, for visiting girlfriend

Qatar‑expatriate Sifat Ullah died in hospital after a knife attack on him at girl friend's home in the city. Collected photo.

A Qatar‑expatriate man named Sifat Ullah (30) was killed in a knife attack by muggers at Adarshapara Boraitola area of Shahbagh, Dhaka, when he went to meet his girlfriend. Two other youths were also injured in the incident. The attack took place around 3:15 pm today (Sunday).

The victim's girlfriend, Nazifa Sheikh (23), said that her friend Sifat had come to her house in the afternoon to meet her. At that time, 6‑7 people including Joy, Rajib, and Yasin from the locality entered their house and tried to forcibly drag Sifat downstairs. A scuffle broke out between them. At one point, the attackers indiscriminately hacked Sifat with sharp weapons, injuring him. During the incident, two of the attackers, Rajib and Yasin, were also injured.

She said that the seriously injured Sifat Ullah was rescued and first taken to Mugda General Hospital. Later, he was admitted to the One‑Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC) at Dhaka Medical College (Dhaka Medical) Hospital for better treatment. He died there around 6:15 pm while undergoing treatment. The two injured youths also came to Dhaka Medical Hospital for treatment.

Injured Rajib (aka Rabbi) said that they had gone to that house at Boraitola after hearing that immoral activities were going on there. He said, "When we went to that house, one youth attacked us. When we approached, he stabbed us. There was a scuffle and fighting, and we got injured."

Meanwhile, Nazifa Sheikh said, "I have been in a relationship with Sifat, a resident of Dholaipara, for two years. We were supposed to get married soon."

Claiming to be an honours student at Badrunnesa Government Women's College, Nazifa said, "The house where the incident occurred belongs to my elder sister. Joy is a known local goon. He used to come to that house occasionally with his friends and consume drugs. When Sifat found out about this, he had told them not to come to that house. They were angry about that."

Hasan, a friend of the deceased, came to the hospital and said that Sifat Ullah was a Qatar expatriate and used to do business there.

Regarding the victim's family, he said that their home is in the Dholaipara area of Jatrabari. His father's name is Zainal Abedin. Sifat was the younger of one brother and one sister.

Sifat's body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical Hospital morgue for autopsy. The matter has been informed to the Shahbagh police station, confirmed Md. Habibur Rahman, Inspector in‑charge of the Dhaka Medical Hospital Police Outpost.
