Healthcare center demolished in Mirpur

A private healthcare institution Radda MCH-FP Centre at Mirpur, Dhaka was demolished on Thursday night.
Shah Ali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter. Radda Executive Director Nasrin Akhter filed a case at the police station on Friday morning. The organization alleged that various office materials and vaccination equipment were also looted.
OC Jahangir said a BNP leader named Hanif Mia and 200-250 unidentified individuals have been named as accused in the case. Charges of illegal trespass, theft, threats, and causing damage of more than Tk 1.5 crore have been brought against them.
A local businessman told Agamir Somoy, “There are some disputes over the ownership of about 10 katha of land belonging to Radda. Taking advantage of this, an attack was carried out under the leadership of local BNP leader Hanif Mia to occupy the land.”
However, Hanif denied the allegation. He said, “I am not involved in this incident at all. I do not even know what happened there. Who put my name in the case?” He added that he would look into the matter.
According to the case statement, more than 250 people armed with local weapons attacked the Radda MCH-FP Centre. They took security guards hostage, vandalized the establishment, and carried out looting.
Later, using heavy machinery, they demolished the entire facility, including one brick-built and three semi-brick-built buildings. The attackers also put up a signboard in front of the land reading “Somomona Dokandar Samity Ltd”.
Nasrin condemned and protested the incident, demanding that the attackers be brought under the law and punished. The press release said the Radda MCH-FP Centre has been providing free primary healthcare, maternity care, and family planning services to poor and helpless mothers and children for 50 years in partnership with the government.
