Police from Mirpur Model Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested three brothers over allegations of extortion, controlling the scrap and jute trade, occupying plots and flats, controlling footpaths and operating juvenile gangs in the capital's Mirpur area.

According to police, the arrested men carried out various criminal activities on behalf of three members of Mirpur's ‘Four Star Group’ who are currently fugitives abroad. The extortion money collected through these activities was remitted to them.

On Thursday, October 22, a police team conducted a special operation and arrested the three men under the leadership of Hasan Mohammad Nasher Bikabdar, deputy commissioner of the Mirpur division.

The arrested individuals are Md. Mehedi Hasan alias Joy, 39, Sanzim Hasan, 27, and Md. Amit Hasan, 28. All three are brothers. Their father is Amir Hossain and their mother is Nasima Begum.

According to police, the three arrested men are nephews of Mofizur Rahman Mamun, Mashiur Rahman and Jamilur Rahman alias Jamil, who are known as top criminals associated with Mirpur's ‘Four Star Group’. They are the sons of Nasima Begum, the elder sister of the three men.

Police said Mehedi Hasan alias Joy was involved in collecting extortion money, controlling the scrap and jute trade, occupying plots and flats, controlling footpaths and operating juvenile gangs on behalf of the group. Police also said he handled financial transactions alongside these activities. The extortion money collected from these sources was sent to Mamun, Mashiur and Jamil, who are fugitives abroad.

Sanzim Hasan has also been accused of using the group's influence to operate juvenile gangs and establish control over Ward No. 91 of Dhaka South City Corporation.

Police said questioning the arrested men revealed information about their regular contact with Mamun, Mashiur and Jamil. Preliminary investigations also indicate that they communicated with one another regularly by mobile phone.

The three men's permanent address is Namagendha in Savar, Dhaka. Their current address is House No. 50, Block ‘Dha’, in the Kalshi area under Pallabi Police Station.

Police further said that an investigation is underway into a case filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Mirpur Police Station.

The DMP's Mirpur division said operations by Mirpur Model Police Station would continue to combat crime, prevent terrorist activities and ensure public safety.
