Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Sohag Fakir, assistant director of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), over allegations of leaking the question paper for the Department of Youth Development’s recruitment examination.
Officers arrested Sohag from the Badarpasha area of Rajoir upazila in Madaripur on Tuesday night.
CID’s Cyber Police Unit confirmed the matter. The team launched an operation with Rajoir Police Station officers and arrested him.
An official said, “Two smartphones were seized from him. Sohag is being brought to Dhaka.”
Authorities scheduled the recruitment examination for the position of assistant upazila youth development officer for 10 October. Candidates from various regions of the country arrived in Dhaka on that day.
Around two minutes after distributing OMR sheets at the test centers, officials notified candidates that they had suspended the examination.
Following the incident, a case was lodged at Motijheel Police Station on 11 October. Authorities held the rescheduled exam on 16 October, where 5,386 candidates passed.
